Jazz Appreciation Society
Montreux stuff1/19/2018 If you’re one of those folks who are into jazz and mountain activities, I strongly advise you to take the opportunity to at least once in your life visit the Montreux Jazz Festival, typically taking place end June / early July. Although its Dutch counterpart, North Sea Jazz, arguably has more to offer for those in search of ‘pure’ jazz or improvisational music, you simply can’t beat Montreux’s charm. Located on Lac Léman and right next to the western Swiss Alps, it offers the perfect combo of music and hardcore outdooring. If you decide to check it out, my suggestion would be to go camping in Morges, like my precious friend Ties Mellema and I did back in 2000. On Thursday July 20th, we saw Brad Mehldau, John Lewis and Mike Brecker: an unforgettable evening. One of the tunes Brecker played was the awesome Every Day I Thank You, a later version of which can be found here: - Dick
