Thomas de Pourquery & band - Bimhuis (Amsterdam)

It was on a Friday evening and I saw my plans - to let the week softly crash with Netflix on the couch - in a pleasant way crossed by fellow JAS-member Jurgen van Loenhout who invited me to attend a performance of Thomas de Pourquery & band.

Thomas de Pourquery is an ex-rugby player (a block of concrete), saxophonist, Sun Ra-adept and a very nice guy as well. Despite the laws of gravity and the current state of the art, he turns his Sun Ra-obsession into a trip to Saturn (the planet Sun Ra came from - this is a true story) and takes his audience with him. It is a bit like a holiday. Once back on earth, the cobwebs in your brain are tucked away and those pieces that were neglected for so long are, where necessary, rearranged.

Being reborn in sound remains something truly magical.
